Following are frequently asked questions.  Click on a question to get the answer.

Q: What's the first step?

A:  After you see an apartment, all your questions are answered, and you decide the apartment and Ardmore Winthrop Properties is just what you’re looking for, ask for an application

Q: And the second step?

A:  A completed, verified application and a check for the first month’s rent will hold the apartment. 

Q: What is required in order to rent an apartment?

A: Before moving in, renters are required to sign a standard City of Chicago lease agreement and pay the first month’s rent, plus a non-refundable administrative fee in the range of $175 to $300 depending on the size of the apartment.

Q: What is the duration of a lease?

A:  A standard lease runs for twelve months.  We prefer the standard one year lease, however we do make exceptions on occasion for individuals with shorter or longer work or school commitments.

Q: Are there any additional charges?

A:  There is a fee of $50 with the application.  The application verification process includes credit and criminal checks, landlord and employment/school verification. 

A non-refundable administrative fee of $175 for studios, $200 for One Bedrooms, and $300 for Two Bedrooms and larger is collected at lease signing. 

In the buildings that pay for the unit’s electricity there is a monthly Air-Conditioning fee if you choose to have us install your air conditioner for the summer months.

Q: Is parking available?

A:  Private parking is available at all of our properties.  Charge for parking spaces varies by building and by outside or garage space.  Parking spaces are assigned and entry to garages is by garage door remote controls.

Q: What is included in the rent?

A:  The majority of our properties include heat, cooking gas, and water in the rent.

Q: Are pets allowed?

A:  In each of the buildings, residents are allowed to have up to One Cat per apartment.

In a few of the buildings, residents can have a Dog (but the max for pets is One Dog OR One Cat). At 5700 N. Winthrop, the weight limit for a dog is 30 lbs. At 5751 N. Winthrop, the max weight for a dog is also 30 lbs. The third building where a dog is allowed is 5752 N. Winthrop, where the weight limit is 15 lbs.

Q: What about cable television?

A:  All apartments are cable ready, some buildings with  with your choice of two different cable providers.

Q: How about public transportation?

A:  All of our properties are conveniently located near “L” (Red Line) stations, as well as numerous bus lines.

Q: Where are the nearest grocery stores?

A:  Chicago’s two major grocery chains operate enormous stores within four blocks of our properties.  The Jewel and the Dominick’s each have a bank and bakery inside and in one a “Starbucks.”

Q: What about receiving packages?

A:  The office for the properties arranges with the drivers of the major shipping firms (FedEx, DHL, UPS, USPS) to leave packages at the building office.

Q: What about laundry facilities?

A:  Each of our buildings has a bright, clean laundry with multiple coin operated washers and dryers.

Q: Can I use my own air conditioner?

A:  Yes. In fact, maintenance will help you install it in the summer and take it out in the fall.
